BESEA Reads on Wed 10 Dec, 10am & 2pm
We're back with our series of informal play readings and discussion sessions centred on the idea of ‘canon’. Through this quarterly series we explore contemporary BESEA approaches to traditional Western texts, as well as established ESEA and diaspora ESEA plays.
Looking at Chekhovian text through ESEA lens, exploring shared traits of Three Sisters and the identities of ESEA women. The upcoming BESEA reads will be a double bill reading Three Sisters by Anton Chekhov, and Masha Has A Gun! by Isabella Leung. The session will be hosted by Isabella as we delve into contemporary ‘reframing’ of Chekhov’s text and the subversion of naturalism as an act of defiance. What is the equivalence of “Moscow! Moscow! Moscow!” if we have a destination of longing?
