Climate X Musical Theatre Workshop

A half-day workshop delivered in partnership with Pollinate, as part of New Earth’s long-term commission to bring a climate justice perspective to sector-wide climate conversations.

Taking place at Hackney Empire, the workshop convened 25 music and theatre artists from diverse backgrounds to share and explore musical theatre material responding to climate change and migration.

The workshop included:

• Collective discussion

• Introductions to key elements of climate and climate justice musical dramaturgy

• Supported creative activities for participants to develop their own concepts
  

Artist delegates were nominated by a network of GM and diverse theatre organisations. We worked with artists who have an established musical and/or theatre practice, supporting them to develop their skills and interest in musical theatre and climate dramaturgy specifically.

Pollinate develops musicals with expertise across the music, theatre and climate sectors. The workshop also helped to build relationships and pathways towards Pollinate’s funded musical theatre incubator programme, running from 2027–2029.
