Climate Playwriting Prize: Script Development Table Reads

Are you writing a play to submit for the Climate Playwriting Prize? Would you like to hear an excerpt read out loud by actors and get feedback on what was read?

As an Associate Partner on the Climate Playwriting Prize, New Earth Theatre will be hosting 2 days of table reads for writers of East and/or Southeast Asian (ESEA) descent who are submitting a play for the prize. This is to help with the development of the scripts.

We will select up to 8 plays. Each writer will be given a slot to present an excerpt of up to 10 pages, to be read by actors from our community. This will be followed by a discussion where they can ask questions of the audience and cast. The sessions will be facilitated by NET Artistic Director Ailin Conant.

The table reads will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday 13 and 14 July, in our office by London Bridge.

To be eligible you must:

  • be of ESEA descent

  • be available on 13th or 14th of July 10:30am-12:45pm or 1:45pm-4pm

  • be eligible to apply for the prize (prize criteria are here)

  • the excerpt must be from a play you intend to submit to the Climate Playwriting Prize

To apply you will need to submit:

  • up to 10 pages of the excerpt that will be presented at the table read

  • a synopsis of the full play

  • a log line

  • a breakdown list of characters

  • a CV or a paragraph about your past playwriting experience

Deadline is 11 June, 6pm
Please note that even if you aren’t selected for the table reads, you can still apply for the prize.
